Art in the Window at Ashtari Carpets – in collaboration with Coppejans Gallery

To celebrate its fifth anniversary, Coppejans Gallery is hosting a special art festival throughout June in Antwerp’s vibrant Schipperskwartier. Art lovers can discover unique works displayed behind the windows of around fifteen neighborhood locations — including Ashtari Carpets.

At Ashtari, we are proud to showcase a powerful piece by renowned Belgian artist Ronny Delrue (°1957, Heestert). Delrue’s artistic practice centers around his daily drawings, which function as a kind of visual diary — capturing thoughts, ideas, memories, developments, and reflections.

His work explores the tension between memory and disappearance. In his drawings, paintings, sculptures, and perforated works, sharp details often emerge from backgrounds that are faded, obscured, or entirely vanished. Personal and collective memories shift over time: some elements dissolve, while others crystallize into unforgettable fragments.

Driven by a spirit of inquiry, Delrue expands his practice through correspondence and collaboration with outsider artists and international colleagues. This facet of his work was the focus of a double exhibition and publication by Centrale in Brussels and SMAK in Ghent in 2019.

The collaboration between Ashtari Carpets and Coppejans Gallery is rooted in a shared passion for dialogue between art and craftsmanship. We're thrilled to renew that connection during this festive cultural moment in our neighborhood.
