Large Persian Gradient Rug in a High-End Project

Spectacular Custom Persian Rug with Gradient Design in a High-End Project

In collaboration with a renowned Belgian designer, Ashtari Carpets recently delivered an extraordinary hand-knotted Persian rug as part of an exclusive international retail project. When sustainability, performance, and design integrity matter most, every detail counts.

Project Goals & Challenges

The space demanded a rug that could endure heavy foot traffic, resist stains, and remain easy to maintain — all while maintaining an elegant, cohesive visual presence. Material selection, structural engineering, and finish quality were crucial from the start.

We selected a design from our own collection: a majestic hand-knotted Persian rug woven in the finest thick, oily wool from Iranian sheep — prized for its strength, high density, and natural sheen.

With dimensions of 7.85 × 2.70 meters, this rug is an ambitious example of large-scale artisan weaving. The size alone presents challenges in consistency, tension, and finishing.

Material & Color Gradient

One of the most striking features is the organic gradient color palette, shifting from deep, earthy greys to soft greys, muted beiges, and natural whites — all achieved without any dyes, relying purely on the inherent wool tones. This creates a pure, soulful aesthetic.

The transition is seamless, giving the impression of a natural sunrise or landscape painting underfoot. It also allows the rug to harmonize beautifully with surrounding finishes, lighting, and architectural elements.

Craftsmanship & Process

This masterpiece took eight months to realize, with four expert artisans working full time in perfect coordination. Each knot, each pile height transition, was executed with precision.

Beyond aesthetics, the rug is built for durability — stain resistance, robust structure, and excellent performance in high-traffic settings are all part of the design brief.

Smaller versions of this design are available from stock in rich reds and natural tones, ideal for residential or boutique-use settings.

Why This Project Is Remarkable

  • Scale & ambition: a large-format hand-knotted rug that retains structural integrity and visual harmony.

  • Pure wool gradient: no dyes used — just intrinsic color variation in the natural fibers.

  • Sustainability with performance: combines luxury with real-world usability.

  • Design collaboration: a synergy between designer vision and artisan know-how.

This project is a testament to how custom rugs can elevate not just floors, but entire interiors, especially when the brief demands both beauty and resilience.
