A Calm Dialogue Between Architecture and Texture
In the seaside town of Knokke, known for its refined lifestyle and design-forward architecture, Ashtari Carpets was invited to create a rug that would reflect the serenity of the coast.
The H.V.H Apartment project celebrates subtle textures, natural materials, and quiet luxury — values that define both Ashtari Carpets and the Belgian coastal aesthetic.
The Interior Concept
Designed with minimal architecture and a soft, natural palette, the apartment embraces openness and light. The rug became a central visual anchor, connecting the living and dining areas through tone, tactility, and balance.
The selected piece — a hand-knotted wool and allo rug — was custom-made to harmonize with the surrounding materials: wooden floors, oak cabinetry, and linen upholstery. Its gentle sheen and nuanced color transitions echo the sand, sea, and sky of Knokke’s coastline, transforming the room into a haven of calm.
Craftsmanship and Material Harmony
Every Ashtari rug is hand-knotted using traditional techniques and natural fibres such as wool, silk, bamboo, and hemp. For this Knokke project, the team focused on texture and light reflection, allowing the rug to shift tone throughout the day — a subtle tribute to the ever-changing seaside atmosphere.
The result is a piece that feels alive: contemporary in form, timeless in spirit.
A Collaboration Rooted in Belgian Design
Although Ashtari Carpets’ showroom is located in Antwerp, we frequently collaborate with interior designers and homeowners in Knokke and along the Belgian coast. This project reflects our ongoing connection with coastal architecture and our ability to deliver custom, handmade rugs for exclusive seaside residences.
